Bandage contact lenses are frequently employed in various ocular conditions to provide comfort, protection, and facilitate healing. They can effectively shield the cornea, stabilize the tear film, and reduce discomfort during the recovery phase.

For instance, in recurrent corneal erosion, bandage contact lenses help protect the cornea from environmental irritants and friction, thereby minimizing the likelihood of subsequent erosions. In bullous keratopathy, these lenses can provide a physical barrier against the damaged epithelium and help manage pain. In cases of filamentary keratitis, bandage lenses can also be beneficial to minimize irritation caused by the filaments and support healing.

However, post-LASIK surgery typically employs different forms of care. After LASIK, patients are often provided with specific medicated drops and are monitored closely without the immediate need for bandage lenses. This is due to the fact that LASIK aims to reshape the cornea and promote rapid epithelial healing without additional contact lenses that might complicate or hinder the recovery process. Thus, while bandage lenses have a significant role in many ocular conditions, their use is not standard in post-LASIK care.
